What devotees believe its benefits are

The hymn itself names the fruits of remembering Hanuman. Verse 24 says ghosts and evil spirits do not come near where his name is spoken. Verse 25 says constant chanting removes illness and pain. Verse 26 says he frees from trouble one who remembers him in thought, word and deed. Verse 36 says troubles are cut away for those who remember him, and verse 38 says reciting it a hundred times frees one from bondage and brings great joy.

Devotees commonly describe these benefits as courage, calm, protection from fear and steadiness in difficult times. These are matters of faith and personal experience, not medical or scientific claims.

When to recite

Tuesday and Saturday are traditionally the days of Hanuman worship. Many people also recite every day, in the early morning after a bath or in the evening. The hymn is also read before starting something important or when facing a difficult situation. There is no single required time, and sincere recitation at any hour is considered fine.

Simple path vidhi (how to recite)

  1. Prepare. Bathe or wash hands and face, and sit in a clean, quiet place. Many people face east.
  2. Light a lamp or incense in front of a picture or idol of Hanuman or Ram, if you wish.
  3. Begin with a short prayer. Remember your Guru and Ram, then read the two opening dohas.
  4. Recite the 40 chaupais slowly and clearly. Follow the meaning if you can.
  5. Finish with the closing doha and a moment of silence or thanks.
